Spring 2014 Innovations Institute Classes:
_ Learning Outcomes:
Students will use iPads as a personal and a collaborative learning tool for activities to support their learning, creativity, and productivity on a daily basis.
Teachers will explore research-based strategies to provide a differentiated learning environment with the support of iPad applications. Teachers will collaborate with colleagues as they become part of the Institute’s network to continue their professional learning.
All About the Possibilities: Working with 21st Century Learners!
Examine how we can adjust and adapt our teaching practices to meet our 21st century students' learning styles and needs and at the same time maintain rigorous academic standards for learning. Become familiar with the SAMR model to move from substitution to redefinition models for teaching and learning. Create a PLN (Personal Learning Network) to continue your own learning anytime and anywhere.
Flip the Learning with Screencasting!
Learn how to create screencasts for students to introduce new concepts or use as activities to differentiate instruction. Design a plan for using screencasts to "flip the learning". Try out ways students can create their own casts to demonstrate understanding for formative assessment. Challenge activities will be offered so you can explore the best techniques to use screencasting as well as interactive shared sites to create a new learning environment for your students.
You choose! Explore any of the following options:
Learn ways to create audio files for read alouds and/or book reviews that can be accessed through QR codes. Explore apps that enhance word work, phonics, and fluency skills for primary students as well as how to create running records. Create or extend your class blog to support fiction and non-fiction discussions. Use Notability to mark-up text from a variety of online reading selections.
Designing Content for Interactive Learning
Learn how introduce new content in any subject area as your students interact with your instruction. Students can participate using their iPads by answering questions so you can check for understanding. They can participate in polls, watch videos, and draw or add notes on a whiteboard screen. Student input is collected for the teacher in a spreadsheet to use a formative or summative assessment.
Assessment for Learning
Try strategies that will inform your instruction and engage your students in their learning progress. Create just-in-time questions, quizzes, polls, whiteboards for student demonstrations and exit tickets using routines for reflective thinking. Share data real-time with students as well as data that can be collected through spreadsheets.
iPads for Personal Expression
Explore and design activities that support students to demonstrate creative thinking, communication and collaboration skills while creating products for personal expression.
Try apps that work with photos, videos and tunes. This content is applicable to all content
Learn to use a combination of different apps for 21st century writing skills that support effective and creative publishing skills for a variety of audiences. Learn how students can create published digital books for classmates to collect in their iBooks libraries. The apps introduced will support the writing process in a variety of genres.
