The 21st Century Learner
Learning Module 424
* available your school or as a hybrid-online class There is growing evidence that today's students have a different relationship with information and learning than previous generations. Learn strategies for transforming your teaching practice by examining characteristics of 21st century learners, current brain research, research-based instructional strategies, “Habits of Mind”, and Web 2.0 technologies. This learning module will also apply strategies from educational experts who offer ideas in the book, "Curriculum 21" (Heidi Jacob Hayes, editor) on how to adjust our mindsets and classroom learning environments to support our 21st century learners. Learning Outcomes: • Educators will examine best practices that are aligned with the needs of 21st century learners. • Educators will implement strategies that focus on recent brain research, the Habits of Mind, and Web 2.0 technologies to create a 21st century learning environment. Guidelines and Credit: 1 semester hour Colorado State re-certification credit is offered = 15 hours. This module may be offered in a variety of time blocks. Designing
an Interactive Classroom Learning

* available your school 21st century learners must be able to interact and collaborate with others when learning new knowledge and be challenged to solve problems. Research indicates that we must give students opportunities to interact with classroom Interactive Whiteboards (IWB) to effectively engage them in the learning process. This module explores the use of interactive IWB software features and 10 brain-friendly strategies for making your IWB teaching and learning interactive, memorable, and fun! Learning Outcomes: • Educators will embed research-based models for interaction into daily instruction to provide an engaging and collaborative learning environment. • Educators will use strategies when using an IWB to provide hands-on interaction that will support the process of learning in any content area. Guidelines and Credit: 1 semester hour Colorado State re-certification credit is offered = 15 hours. This module may be offered in a variety of time blocks. Differentiation
for the 21st Century Learner

* available your school Differentiating instruction creates multiple learning options so that students of different interests, needs, and learning styles experience equally appropriate ways to learn, apply, and create products to show understanding as a part of their daily learning process. This learning module explores how the use of an IWB and Web 2.0 technologies can support a differentiated learning environment in your classroom. Learning Outcomes: • Educators will use IWB techniques to provide learning opportunities for students based on these differentiation frameworks: interests, needs, and learning styles. • Educators will use Web 2.0 technologies along brain-compatible learning strategies to differentiate content, process, product, and the learning environment. Guidelines and Credit: 1 semester hour Colorado State re-certification credit is offered = 15 hours. This module may be offered in a variety of time blocks. Assessment Strategies Learning

* available at your school As the learning process should be carefully guided by individual learner needs, formative assessment should pace the instruction to guide the learner along the way. The 21st century learner should also be engaged in assessing their own progress as they become more independent learners. This learning module is designed to provide a variety of assessment techniques using the SMART Response System to inform your instruction. Learning Outcomes: • Educators will use IWB technologies for assessment as they monitor and adjust learning to meet the needs of all students. Guidelines and Credit: Colorado State re-certification credit is offered for 6 hours). This module may be offered in a variety of time blocks. SMART Content Creation Seminar Learning Module 428
* available at your school Educators who have the support of their colleagues as they design IWB lessons for their students are likely to provide instruction that is more thoughtful, interactive, and creative. These seminars are designed for SMART Board users who are familiar with Notebook software’s basic skills. Mini-sessions that are offered increase intermediate and advanced Notebook skills. Plan and design lessons to add to your collection of SMART lessons for your students! Learning Outcomes: • Educators will use a variety of resources to find lessons, create, and share lessons with colleagues and form a Collaborative Learning Team to support their SMART instruction. Guidelines and Credit: 1 semester hour Colorado State re-certification credit is offered = 15 hours. This module may be offered in a variety of time blocks. Take on the Challenge. . . One Step at a Time Learning Module 429
* available online or as a hybrid online class at your school Every two weeks, in each of our 5 classes you will focus on a NETS Standard using web activities, resources, and readings of your choice posted on our Take on the Challenge Blog. You will share your experiences as you post your learning outcomes and reflections about the learning with your students with a team of 3 - 5 colleagues online and your online coach. (Additional fees for outside the Denver Metro area). Learning Outcomes: • Exam pedagogical practices by exploring best practices that are aligned with 21st century educational standards. • Implement instructional strategies that support digital learning opportunities • Learn new skills that compliment and support the academic learning goals for your digital learners. Guidelines and Credit: Take on the Challenge Class may be offered for your school/district. Start dates are flexible for this online course for teachers who wish to join others as a cohort team. Follow-up is recommended using any of the models listed in the Professional Learning Options section in this catalog. This learning module will also support schools who are implementing a 1:1 initiative. _

All About Apps 101 Explore apps that will engage your students to be more independent as well as collaborative learners. A variety of learning activities will be shared using Bloom's Knowledge, Comprehension, Application, Analysis, Synthesis, and Evaluation categories. These apps will truly begin to transform learning for you and your students. Reading with iPads: Design lessons and explore apps that support reading activities to increases reading fluency skills. Writing with iPads: Design lessons and explore apps that support students to write and publish in variety of genres.
