Students will use iPads as a personal and a collaborative learning tool for activities to support their learning, creativity, and productivity on a daily basis.
Teachers will explore research-based strategies to provide a differentiated learning environment with the support of iPad applications. Teachers will collaborate with colleagues as they become part of the Institute’s network to continue their professional learning.
All About the Possibilities: SAMR plus Tips and Tricks to get started!
Become familiar with the SAMR model to move from substitution to redefinition models for teaching and learning. Learn about features of the iPad that can be customized to make this a truly personal device to make the most of this course. Explore apps, blogs and online posts to create your own Personal Learning Network.
Creating student and teacher tutorials - Screencasting 101
Learn how to create screen casts for students to introduce new concepts or use as tutorials to differentiate instruction. Explore options for using screen casts for "Flipped Learning". Discuss ways students can create their own casts to demonstrate understanding and applications of new concepts for formative assessment. Review screencasting apps and learn techniques to make them effective and engaging.
Learn ways to create audio files for read alouds and/or book reviews that can be accessed through QR codes. Create audio "bites" as reflections about current event articles to share in a private Twitter class account. Explore apps that enhance word work, phonics, and fluency skills for primary students as well as how to create running records for students. Ideas for intermediate students will focus on creating a blog to support reading discussions and comprehension skills.
Assessment for Learning
Try apps that will inform your instruction and engage your students in their learning progress. Create just-in-time questions, quizzes, polls, whiteboards for student demonstrations and exit tickets using routines for reflective thinking. Share data real-time with students as well as data that can be collected through spreadsheets.
iPads for Personal Expression
Explore and design activities that support students to demonstrate creative thinking, communication and collaboration skills while creating products for personal expression. Try apps that work with photos, videos and tunes. This content is applicable to all content
Learn to use a combination of different apps for 21st century writing skills that support effective and creative publishing skills for a variety of audiences. The apps introduced will also support the writing process in a variety of genres.
