Story of the Week!
I Can't Imagine a Day!

My students and I love our new SMARTboard! The students love it because they are able to access information, collaborate with their classmates, demonstrate their learning, and interact with the board. They are able to maneuver through lessons and web sites in such a way as to activate their own learning and maintain engagement. They are able to use the tools at their disposal to explain and show their thinking.
I love the SMARTboard because it gives me everything I need to plan, teach, evaluate, and document lessons, activities, and student progress. I use the recorder to record the thought process of students as they work through challenging problems. The students read stories on the SMARTboard. While the students are reading, I do a running record which shows students what they need to focus on and provides me valuable information which guides my instruction. My students and I can’t imagine a day without our SMARTboard.

Growing Active Learners!

The last several months of having the SMARTboard in our class has been an amazing and exciting learning journey. When our class first had the addition to our classroom everyone couldn’t wait to get their hands on it. All students wanted to help contribute, problem solve and participate with lessons and activities using the SMARTboard. My boys have taken ownership of their learning and tend to be more active participants during discussions. I’ve seen students become leaders who are comfortable to come up and share in front of their peers; students who are eager to teach what they have learned. This was apparent when students presented their “How To” podcasts they had created on the SMARTboard. Students were not only eager to share their presentations with their peers, but students were also eager to listen to their peers and learn what they had to teach them. Students would huddle around the SMARTboard to watch each podcast and were not only engaged and interested but also learning. They would ask questions after each presentation to make sure they could try what it was they were being taught how to do. Even after having the SMARTboard in the classroom for just a few months, I don’t know what we would do without it.
